Starting Point and Detail

[Return to Index]

By default WebPosition will not show the frequency counts and other statistics for every link, comment, and heading area on the page. However, if you wish to see this detail, you can de-check the "Summarize Analysis Data" box on the Settings tab of the Page Critic mission.

The "Starting Pos." column in the Page Critic tells you how far down the page a particular area begins. The Starting Position column is displayed only when you turn the detail lines on by de-checking the "Summarize Analysis Data" checkbox on the Settings tab. This number refers to the number of words down the page that the keyword phrase is found in each particular area.

For example, if you see an "8" in the "Starting Pos." column in the Meta Keywords row, you'll know that the keyword phrase is the 8th word on the page and is found in the meta keyword tag. HTML tags themselves (such as title) are not counted as part of the number of words.

This statistic is useful in determining how prominent a heading tag, hyperlink, or other area appears in relation to the top of the page. In general, the closer to the top of the page a keyword/area appears, the higher it will be scored.
