Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions about the Page Critic:

Why does the Critic recommend changes to a page already ranking well?

The recommendations and suggestions given by the Page Critic are based upon statistical AVERAGES of top ranking pages. Used effectively, these suggestions and tips can do wonders for a page's position. But, the suggestions made by the software are far from being the only solution. There are an infinite number of combinations that can produce a page that ranks well. Any number of variations in the tags, body text, etc. could produce that special high-ranking page. However, if competition for your keyword(s) gets fiercer, and your ranking drops, then refer to the Critic's advice for further improving that page.

If your page already ranks in the top 10, or top 5, and you're satisfied with that listing, then you may want to leave the page alone for now. Tinkering with it could move you to the number one slot, but occasionally you could drop in rank too.

Why does the Critic recommend changes to a page already ranking well?

Do I need to implement all the Critic's suggestions? No, it may not be necessary to use every suggestion made by the critic. If time is a factor, one strategy is to try implementing just a few of the tips at first. Dependent upon the engine and term you are targeting, it is possible the page will achieve a good rank based upon just a few of the Critic's suggestions.

However, if the page in question does not achieve the rank you wish, implement a few more tips, upload, and submit again. You can expand out and make use of more of the recommendations as necessary.

For engines that take weeks to index, you may want to implement most of the suggestions the first time, to give you the best chance of ranking well the first time around.

Why does the Critic recommend changes to a page already ranking well?

You can do this if you choose. Keep in mind though that the Page Critic offers different recommendations and suggestions for each major engine. As a result, it is not likely you will be able to modify your main pages to the point that they rank well on multiple engines. A more effective strategy is to create new pages, and use the Page Critic to optimize these pages.
