Link Popularity

Site or link popularity is also called a site's significance ranking, because it is believed that one measure of a site's "value" is the number and importance of other web sites who felt your site was significant enough to link to. If important and authoritative sites in your focus area link to you, chances are your site is relatively important as well. The popularity of the sites that link to you can also play a role.

The absolute number of links to your site is not as important as the quality of those links. Try to cultivate link enchange relationships with popular and authoritative sites in your topic area. Also, focus on the link text that is being used to describe your site from those sites linking to yours. Here are a few informative arcticles about Link Popularity:

WebPosition 4 displays information about a web site's Link Popularity for Google, MSN, Teoma, and Yahoo! Web Results in the Reporter Visibility Report. The data is shown both graphically, and in tabular form.

You can also gather information about a web site's Link Popularity on MSN, Lycos/AllTheWeb, and AltaVista search engines at linkpopularitycheck.com.

How can you improve your site's link popularity?

  1. Contact other sites in your focus area and ask them to link to your site. To encourage them to link to you, offer to link back to their site. Because of the importance of link popularity, be sure to give them the link text you want used when linking to your site which should include your important keyword phrase in the link text.

  2. To find sites in your focus area, visit the Teoma search engine and search for your important keyword phrase. What sites are listed as "Experts and Enthusiasts"? Those might be ideal link partners for you, since Teoma has already called them "experts and enthusiasts."

  3. You can also visit a search engine like Google and type:

"submit a link" "your keyword phrase"

    For example:

    "submit a link" "home schooling"

You'll be shown search results that contain pages that allow you to "submit a link" under the topic of "home schooling," which again might be good link partners for you.
