At first, WebPosition Gold may feel somewhat overwhelming because of the large array of things it does to promote your site. Don't worry! Each module has been designed to help you each step of the way through successfully promoting your Web site on the search engines. No other product simplifies "search engine positioning" by automating each step of the process like WebPosition Gold.
Products that simply submit you to hundreds of no-name engines and suggest you just add meta tags to your pages are NOT going to work. Most experts in the industry will tell you that you're unlikely to realize any significant traffic from the "shotgun submission" method. The KEY to generating new traffic is to create and maintain pages on your site that will be found in the top 10 to 30 matches on the MAJOR search engines, since that's where 95% of the traffic comes from. If you've submitted your site, but nobody can find you on a search, then what was the point?
WebPosition Gold is the first product to intelligently solve this problem with a turnkey solution. It automates and assists you in every step of the process, so you can bring highly targeted traffic to your Web site without spending a dime in advertising dollars.
We have hundreds of customers who have sent us testimonials, swearing that WebPosition made their once struggling business highly profitable. Anyone can do it. Just follow the basic steps to successfully promoting your site to the search engines using WebPosition:
Step By Step:
1. The first step will be to run a Reporter mission to check how high your pages rank for each keyword you are targeting. Select the File menu, choose New Mission, and
then click the Reporter button. Target keywords you think people would type in the search engines to find the type of products or services you offer. (See the topic
Choosing Keywords for more information on choosing effective keywords!)
By running the Reporter you'll have a baseline to work from
while you improve your rankings. You can monitor your progress over time with the Reporter so you know what keywords to focus on.
At first, most people find their
rankings are very poor, or even non-existent if they've never done anything beyond submitting to promote their site. That is the problem that WebPosition will help you solve!
It's critical that you use the Scheduler to run the Reporter regularly to monitor your current positions. Depending on the frequency that your positions changes, you may
want to run a report one or more times each month, preferably at night.
If you fall in rank, you'll want to re-analyze the page with the Page Critic. The Critic will
download new "knowledge bases" periodically to inform you of "rules" for each search engine that may have changed. Make the recommended changes to the pages that fell in rank, then re-submit. In
many cases, you'll then jump back up the list.
Some keyword positions can remain constant for months at a time. Others tend to change more frequently. The Reporter
makes it easy to keep tabs on this, quickly becoming a valuable management tool.
IMPORTANT: Make use of the HELP files on each screen by pressing F1 or clicking the Help
button. Although you can certainly use all of WebPosition's features without ever needing to refer to these help topics, you'll miss many valuable tips and insights you might otherwise overlook.
This step by step guide assumes you'll refer to the help section for any module you have specific questions about.
2. After running the Reporter, you'll know what keywords you need to optimize pages for so that they'll rank in the top 10 matches. If you're new to the concept of search engine optimization and
have not optimized any pages for your Web site, then you'll want to start with the Page Generator.
The Page Generator is designed to be a teaching tool, not a mechanism
to spam a search engine with junk content. It will step you through the key elements that make up a top ranking page such as the title tag, meta tags, choosing keywords, and so forth.
Once you understand this process, you can apply the concepts to your existing Web pages using the Page Critic to create "search engine friendly" pages. The key to achieving top rankings is simply to
give the search engine the ideal page it wants to see.
To run the Page Generator, select the File menu, click New Mission, and then click on the Page Generator
button. You will be greeted by a friendly Wizard style interface which steps you through the creation of Web pages that are far more likely to rank well on each major search engine than your
"regular" pages.
It's important to note that a single page will not normally rank well for all engines and all keywords. Therefore, additional pages must be created to
maximize your visibility potential on the search engines. The Page Generator knows what each search engine likes to "see" and attempts to generate a generic page with all the
appropriate HTML tags, including meta tags.
Note: The Page Generator will create a very basic-looking page with the appropriate HTML tags already inserted for
the selected engine. However, most people like to enhance these pages by adding their company logo, or other graphics and customizations. You can do this after the fact, or you can use the template
features to customize the look of the generated pages to your preferred style.
3. After generating your page, you'll be prompted to run the page through the Page Critic. Please do so! This is the most critical aspect of promoting your site. It will
analyze everything you typed in the generator, and how you used your keywords on the page. It will then offer specific advice for improving the design and content of the page. These changes will
help it rank higher for the keyword and search engine you are targeting. The Critic provides both a "plain-English" advice section, as well as a technical analysis of the page. There's even a
built-in Page Editor for making quick changes to the files you're analyzing.
Note: Besides being able to load the Page Critic after generating a page, you can also
analyze pages by selecting File, New Mission, and then clicking the Page Critic button. This is useful for analyzing and for fine-tuning existing pages on your site, rather than just the ones you
generated.
Go back and generate other pages to target other keywords or fine-tune existing pages. Some people find it easier to copy and then adapt their existing pages
for use with other keywords and engines, rather than generating new ones each time. Use whichever method works best for you.
Important: The CONTENT and keyword
layout of your pages will be the most significant factor most search engines use in determining how high you'll rank. Knowing how many times to repeat a keyword and where to place those keywords is
the real secret to achieving top 10 rankings. External factors such as incoming links to your site will also play a role in your rankings. 2Top rankings in the search engines are the key to
bringing new traffic and visibility for your Web site.
4. After optimizing your existing pages, and generating new ones as desired, you'll need to upload, or re-upload them to your Web site. The Upload Manager assists you in tracking any pages that have changed on your local disk since the last time you uploaded. It will then upload the files to your Web site with the built-in FTP manager or with a third party tool you designate. Select File, New Mission, and Upload Manager to use the Upload Manager.
5. Once uploading is completed, you're ready to submit your pages to the search engines with the Submitter. The search engines will not be instantly aware of changes you made to your
Web site. Therefore, you'll generally want to tell the search engine about your new or changed pages. This is called "submitting". You can go to each search engine and individually submit each of
your pages, or you can use the built-in Submitter to create Missions to do it automatically.
Unfortunately, there are potential pitfalls to submitting since each engine
has their own set of rules and submission limits. Unlike other submission products and services, WebPosition will try to warn you about known limits so you do it right the first time. If you try to
submit too many pages at once, it will prompt you to submit the correct amount for that day to avoid spamming an engine.
After submitting, it will take anywhere from one to
eight weeks for your submission to be integrated with their database, and for your ranking to change. The amount of time varies for each search engine. The submission report generated after you
submit will give you estimated times for each engine so you know what to expect.
During this period, run the Reporter and watch the URL Verification report to
see when you become indexed. Monitor the Concise Summary report to see when your rankings improve.
6. Achieving good positions is one thing, but how many new visitors did you actually bring to your site? What keywords did they search on to actually find you? How many came from each search
engine? The Traffic Analyzer will answer all these questions and many more.
You should have the Traffic Analyzer add an invisible "traffic counting
script" to each of your pages to begin tracking your visitors and where they came from. Once your pages are updated, which will take only a few seconds, then upload them to your site. This module
will prove how WebPosition can easily pay for itself many times in new traffic it generates.
Watch for keywords you're frequently found under in one engine, and optimize
your pages for those same keywords for other engines. This one tip alone can significantly increase your traffic. In addition, if you achieve good positions on keywords that don't bring any
traffic, then move on to other keywords and phrases that might prove to be more effective. Don't waste time on keywords for which no one will search.
7. Most of our customers report getting hundreds of new visitors to their site each week, or each month. Some even get tens of thousands of visitors from the search engines. Even on the "low end"
this can translate into thousands of dollars of free advertising over just a few months. The best part is these are all people who were looking for YOU. That means they are much more likely to buy
something from you than other people who clicked on a banner ad out of idle curiosity.
That's all there is to it! So what are you waiting for? Get started right away.
Upgrade from the trial version, which supports just 3 engines for 30 days, to the full version that supports dozens of engines with no time limit. You'll then be able to
optimize for ALL the major engines at once, making better use of your time. You'll still have a full 45 days to request a full refund if you are not absolutely thrilled with the results. We aren't
concerned though, since few people want a refund after they see the great results WebPosition can produce. You can order or get current pricing right now by returning to WebPosition and selecting
File, and then Order.
Note: Most "missions" can be saved so you can go back later and re-run the mission with the same settings. Don't create new missions unless you require a different set of settings. Choose Open from the File menu to retrieve your previously saved mission files.
If you don't understand some of what is said above, be sure to click the links for each part of the program (i.e., Page Generator, Page Critic, etc.) to learn more about that topic. Take the time to read all the text on each screen. Much of the process will be explained there. Further details for each particular screen can be accessed by pressing the Help button in the lower left corner of most windows, or by pressing F1.
