There are basically three ways to get your Web site indexed:
1. Wait for the search engine to find you by following a link from another site. (This may take a very long time).
2. Go to each search engine and select their submit URL option. Page submit links for each search engine have been provided on the Detail and Summary reports for your convenience! Just click on the link on the report and you'll go right to the submit page.
3. Or, simply run the WebPosition Submitter.
Once you've submitted to the engine, expect to be indexed anywhere from a few days to 6-8 weeks depending on the engine. The Submitter report will indicate how much time you should expect for each submission to be added to the search engine's database.
Pitfalls in submitting pages
Several things you should keep in mind in submitting pages:
1. SUBMIT EACH PAGE? Most engines will not only index your main page but will also seek out links to your other pages to index. They'll move two or more levels down the site tree. Therefore, it's not always necessary to submit each page individually to those engines. However, if you create pages that link to your home page but are not linked to in return, you'll need to submit those pages individually, or create a page with visible or hidden links to each of your search engine friendly pages.
2. MAKE SURE EVERYTHING'S READY FIRST. Since many engines take weeks to index a page, you might be tempted to jump the gun on a new site and submit it before you've got all your pages done. Be careful about this, since if an engine spiders your site and doesn't find your home page or the page you specify, most will not try again later. In addition, many engines will immediately verify whether your page exists and reject your submission that same day. Of course, they are rarely nice enough to warn you of the problem.
3. SPAMMING: Some engines are reported to have started watching for people submitting too many pages at once. They sometimes limit you on how many you can submit per day or week. They may also look for people submitting too many similar pages and ban sites that they feel are abusing the system. Therefore, it's always best to proceed with caution and submit only as many variations of a page as absolutely necessary to achieve your goal. The WebPosition Submitter will warn you if you attempt to submit more URLs per day than you should.
